Lesson 1: Tap an amiibo to get started

First, you'll need an amiibo figure or amiibo card and a game that's compatible with that specific amiibo. Tap your amiibo to a Wii U GamePad controller, New Nintendo 3DS system, or New Nintendo 3DS XL system, all of which have built-in amiibo functionality. If you have a Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL system, or Nintendo 2DS system, you can tap an amiibo to the Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer accessory (sold separately) to read/write to the amiibo. Read-only means you can tap your amiibo for addition content; Read-Write means you can tap the amiibo for addition content and the ability to save certain game data to the amiibo.

Lesson 2: What can amiibo do?

Tap in this amiibo while playing the Super Mario Maker game to add a Mystery Mushroom to your course. Use the same Mario amiibo figure in the Mario Party 10 game, and you'll be able to play with and customize the amiibo within the game—you can even customize the game board to match your character!
