How to share the fun with family
There is one island to share with the whole family (up to eight people) on a single Nintendo Switch system. Each user can register one resident and each resident can of course build their own house. One optional extra provided only to those islands with multiple residents is called Party Play. You can call up other residents on the same island as you, and up to four of those residents can explore the island together at one time, with each player using a compatible controller.
How to open gates for visitors
The airport is available for use year-round, 24 hours a day, beginning on the day after your arrival. At the airport, you can talk to Orville about inviting friends to your island. If the other player is in the same room and has their own Nintendo Switch system and the game, you can visit each other’s island through local wireless play, which means no internet connection is required. You can also invite a friend from a far-off island via online play, which requires an internet connection.
How to show respect as a guest
In order to protect the environment of each player’s island, some tools like axes and shovels are forbidden in visits with friends. However, friends who are registered as Best Friends can use these tools. A good rule of thumb is not to take another player’s DIY materials, items, or fossils without asking first. Using the in-game messaging can help you do that. You can also go shopping when visiting another player’s island, since each island carries different items in their shops each day. Be sure to ask permission before buying the limited-stock items, though!
How to celebrate seasonal events with friends
With free post-launch updates available, you can celebrate certain seasonal events throughout the year. You can invite friends and family to join you on your island for these events.
How to use amiibo to invite residents
Animal Crossing: New Horizons supports amiibo figures and amiibo cards from the Animal Crossing series. You can invite animal residents to visit your island. You can also invite them to Photopia, an island where you can create photo shoots!
