What you’ll need to start

You’ll need three things to get started with GameChat*. First, you’ll need a Nintendo Switch 2 system. (Please note: GameChat is available only for the Nintendo Switch 2 system.) Next, you’ll need a parent or guardian to set up GameChat (they can learn more about GameChat on the Play Nintendo for Parents site). And finally, you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Please note that until March 31, 2026, GameChat can be used without a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Afterwards, a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to use GameChat. Now let’s take a look at fun ways you can use GameChat!
Friends can play different games together!

Away from friends during the holidays? You can meet up with your pals online in GameChat, even if everyone is far away. Up to four people can share the screen of whatever they’re playing. For example, you can catch Pokémon in the Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game while another friend plays the Mario Kart World game, another plays the Kirby Air Riders game, and another plays the Donkey Kong Bananza game.
Friends can play their own games!

You can join a friend online and use GameChat to play the same game side by side on your respective screens. For example, you can share your journey in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game. With GameChat, you and a friend can each play your own game and show off your cool discoveries and creations made with the UltraHand and Fuse abilities or get some advice to solve a tricky puzzle.
Friends can introduce games to each other!

Two friends, two games, and a fair distance between the two of you? You can use GameChat to introduce your friend to your game and vice versa. If you have Donkey Kong Bananza and your friend has Kirby Air Riders, you can hop on GameChat together to show each other your respective games and find out how fun they are to play!
A lot of friends can voice chat during a game!

You can voice chat with up to 11 friends while you play a game—that’s a lot of players! If you find yourself far from groups of friends or family members over the holidays, you can hang out with a bunch of them via GameChat. For example, if you had 11 cousins across the country, you could laugh and joke and talk with all of them while playing the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV game.
*Internet, Nintendo Switch Online membership and Nintendo Account required for online features, including GameChat. Compatible USB camera required for video features. Not available in all countries. Terms and GameChat
