Kirby floats off to a mysterious world with abandoned structures from a past civilization—and ferocious enemies, too—in the Kirby and the Forgotten Land game, available now only on the Nintendo Switch family of systems. Here are five tips and tricks to help guide you through the game. You can discover useful info about mastering Kirby’s moves, teaming up with a pal for co-op play, and evolving your copy abilities!

How to dodge an enemy attack

Kirby flips backward to avoid a hit from a giant boss.

Kirby can copy enemies’ abilities like the new Drill and Ranger and use them to attack. But mastering Kirby's dynamic abilities means learning how to dodge attacks as well. You can hold the L, R, ZL, or ZR Button to crouch guard, and then press the control stick in any direction to somersault. This move will come in handy when you need to dodge incoming enemy attacks to keep Kirby in the fight.

How to change difficulty levels

You can choose from two difficulty modes for either a light, breezy adventure, or a more challenging experience. Spring-Breeze Mode is a Kirby game that’s simple to play. You’ll have a lot of health for this adventure, making it a great choice for those who are new to action games. Wild Mode is a bit wilder and more challenging. This adventure will be tough at times, but you’ll collect a lot of Star Coins as rewards! You can change the difficulty level at any time during your game.

How to team up with a friend for Co-op play

Kirby battles an enemy in the background while Bandana Waddle Dee slashes at an enemy with its spear.

You and a buddy can work together to explore and battle! Player 1 plays as Kirby while Player 2 can drop in and out of the game at any time and play as Bandana Waddle Dee. Kirby can float and inhale enemies and Bandana Waddle Dee can spin and stab with his sturdy spear. Co-op play is available on the same system only. You can begin Co-op play after selecting a save file on the Main Menu, or by selecting "Play Co-op" from the Pause menu.

How to perform emotes

Kirby as Player 1 and Bandana Waddle Dee as Player 2 give a big smile.

You can have Kirby or Bandana Waddle Dee perform some fun emotes, which are in-game emotions and actions. To perform emotes, the characters must be standing still. Then you can simply press of the directional buttons on the D-pad while using two Joy-Con controllers or a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (sold separately). You can give it a try to see exactly what kinds of emotes Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee can do!

How to evolve your copy abilities

Each themed stage you travel through will hide some friendly Waddle Dees in peril. You can save them to grow the home base of your adventure, the once-deserted Waddle Dee Town. The Waddle Dees you rescue will unlock surprises, like the ability to evolve copy abilities to make them stronger! You can also change your evolved copy abilities back to their normal forms.
