When the king asks you to catch him some Pokémon, you gotta collect some Pokémon for him. 

Luckily, Play Nintendo found five great ways that may help you win a few of your battles. It’s all about picking the right moves for the battle—and a little bit of luck never hurt.

Pokémon with Special Traits

There are Normal Pokémon, and then there are Pokémon with special traits that can give you boosted abilities. These Pokémon are hard to find, but they can really save your tail in battle. For example, the Healthy Trait lets you regenerate your own Health. You can search your in-game Pokémon collection for ones with special traits. Hit the X Button to bring up the collection, then Start to filter by special trait.

Filter by moves and more

There are HP-draining moves (such as Mega Drain) that steal HP from the enemy Pokémon and give it to your Pokémon. Sneaky, right? But good to have in battle! So the filter feature mentioned above is also helpful when you’re searching for just the right move. You can search through your collection of Pokémon to see their moves. Not only that, but you can also filter by type, name, move time, move name, and special trait.

 The right move for the battle

Some moves can make battles a breeze, so picking the right move can be really important. Let’s say you’re up against an especially powerful Ground-type Pokémon. One move that’s good against Ground types (and Water types too) is the Magical Leaf. Ground types and Water types are weak to grass, so you can use this move to throw magical leaves that will automatically target your enemies.

Moves to boost stats 

 If you’re headed into a tough battle, you can try to pick certain moves that’ll boost your stats. For instance, the Silver Wind move increases your attack, defense, and speed. That may give you the advantage you need to beat a really nasty boss or a difficult level. But don’t hold onto these moves for too long, because eventually your Pokémon won’t have enough power to do any real damage. 

Fever Mode is hot

Fever Mode is a hot bonus round that can up a player’s odds of finding rare Pokémon on a stage. This mode shows up randomly during stage selection, so it’s all about luck. But if you happen to get Fever Mode, you can trigger it to add more stars to the stages—and more stars means there are more hard-to-find Pokémon on that stage!
