You can share the wonder with friends and family in both online* and local co-op (cooperative) play in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game for the Nintendo Switch family of systems. Here are five tips and tricks to help you and your friends work together to save the Flower Kingdom. You can keep reading to learn more!

How can I play together with friends in local co-op?

Local play refers to players who are together in the same room or on the same couch, which is why it’s sometimes known as “couch co-op.” In the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game, you can team up with up to three friends* locally on one Nintendo Switch system and race through courses together; each player will need their own controller.

If a player is defeated in local co-op, their character will float around the course as a ghost. If another player touches their ghost before time runs out, they’ll jump right back into the action and your group won’t lose a life.

Can I really ride Yoshis in this game?

Yes, you can ride Yoshis in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game! If another player is playing as a Yoshi, you can jump on their back and ride them around the course. You can do this even if you’re also playing as a Yoshi, or if you’re in Elephant form. Yoshi is a great choice for beginner players because he doesn’t take damage; plus, you can flutter jump and eat things and spit them out at enemies.

How can I participate in online play?

If you connect online** you might see other players on the world map and in courses. These are people from around the world playing the game in real time, appearing as live player shadows. Just like in local co-op, if you’re defeated, you can come back to life by bumping into a live player shadow. Even though you won’t be playing directly with other players, you can send each other emoticon greetings and share in-game items as you enjoy this new adventure together. Please note that online play requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Parents and guardians can learn more here

How do I create a room for online play?

Creating a room for you and your friends is another way to play online**. Up to 12 friends can play online in a Co-Op room, with up to 4 players on a single course. Once you create an open room, you can choose whether or not to give the room a password. If you do, friends with the password can join; if not, friends won’t need a password to join. In a shared room you can see which courses your friends are playing, play the same courses, and turn most courses into a race with a Race Block. If all 4 players hit the Race Block, you can turn the course into a Friend Race!

How are standees used in the game?

Standees are sensational ways to help fellow players. If you place a standee while you’re playing online, other players can use them to revive themselves if they turn into ghosts. You can use in-game flower coins to buy new standees to add more to your collection. You never know which standee you’ll get. You can visit Poplin Shops on the world map and try to collect them all.

When you come into contact with an online player or standee, you’ll see their Heart Points. These points show how much they’ve helped other players on their adventure. Reviving ghosts, gifting items, and reaching the Goal Pole together and more will earn you Heart Points.
