I just started the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game. What should I do first?
Link begins his journey on one of the many mysterious floating islands that have suddenly appeared in the skies high above Hyrule. This part of the game is a sort of tutorial. No one will tell you exactly where to go or what to do, but here’s a hint: You’ll need to visit four different Shrines. At each Shrine you’ll be given a certain ability to help you solve a puzzle. To solve these puzzles, you’ll need to pay careful attention to the environment around you. You might need to look up, down, side to side—all over! Once the puzzle is solved, you’ll gain the ability permanently.
How do I get the new Ultrahand ability, and what does it do?
A character named Rauru will point out the first Shrine for you—the Ukouh Shrine. The Ukouh Shrine is where you’ll acquire the Ultrahand ability. Link’s new Ultrahand ability gives him the power to pick up, move, and rotate objects. You can use this ability to attach things together to build things like bridges, boats, cars, and even flying machines! You can get creative with Ultrahand as you try to solve problems, like how to travel across the land or sea or skies.
How do I get the new Fuse ability, and what does it do?
The Fuse ability is acquired at the second Shrine—the In-isa Shrine. Link’s new Fuse ability gives him the power to magically stick objects to his current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. You can experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
How do I get the new Ascend ability, and what does it do?
The Ascend ability is acquired at the third Shrine—the Gutanbac Shrine. Link’s new Ascend ability gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. You can rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to make seemingly impossible shortcuts. There are so many ways to move creatively around the world!
How do I get the new Recall ability, and what does it do?
The Recall ability is acquired at the fourth Shrine—the Nachoyah Shrine. Link’s new Recall ability gives him the power to reverse an object’s movement. He can ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, and send projectiles back where they came from. Raft float away by accident? You can use Recall to bring it right back!
Once I have all four abilities, how do I get off Great Sky Island?
After all four fantastic abilities have been acquired, you can head to the Temple of Time and take your first plunge off the island and toward the land below. Good luck, and have fun as you create, explore, and discover the world of Hyrule in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game, available now for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
