There are cold and snowy spots in Hyrule in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom video game. In this article, we’ll show you different ways to help Link survive the cold and keep warm, from cooking hot meals to brewing up cold-resistant elixirs. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game is available now exclusively on the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

You can warm up with hot meals

A good hot meal can work wonders! You can cook meals with warming ingredients to keep Link safe from the cold. Spicy Peppers, Sunshrooms, and Warm Safflina are just three warming ingredients you can find in warm areas of the map like the Gerudo Highlands. A hot meal will offer cold protection for a period of time, giving you a chance to explore cold areas like Rito Village or the Gerudo Desert at night.

You can warm up with elixirs

You can make different kinds of elixirs for different effects, from boosting speed to restoring stamina. You can even cool elixirs to keep Link warm! To make an elixir, you’ll need some monster parts (any monster parts will do, as long as they can be used in elixirs) and special insects like a Summerwing Butterfly. However, meals and elixirs’ effects cannot stack so you’ll need to keep an eye on the timer and take another one before it runs out!

You can keep cozy with cold-resistant clothes

Just like in real life, you can throw on some clothes to keep yourself warm. Cold-resistant clothes can keep you cozy and also cut down on your need for warming meals and elixirs. There is a specific item of clothing on Great Sky Island that can help fend off the cold, but we don’t want to ruin the surprise. Just know that we recommend trying to find it before you leave the island!

You can sit next to a fire to stay warm (for a while)

If you’re looking to warm up for a while, you can build a fire and cozy up next to it. This will help for a while, but it’s only a temporary solution—the heat won’t last for long. If you have ingredients, you can cook up some cold-resistant meals. Even if you have nothing to cook, you can toast some Sunshrooms for a little bit of cold resistance. To build a fire in the game, you can take wood and flint and strike it with a weapon.

You can fast travel to a warm location

Once you’ve completed all of the shrines on Great Sky Island during the tutorial, you’ll unlock fast travel. The fast travel feature lets you jump to different shrines and towers throughout Hyrule that you’ve already unlocked. If you find yourself in a dangerously cold situation, you can open the world map and select a warm spot to visit, like the Gerudo Highlands.
