Gather the family together in the same room to enjoy local multiplayer (also known as couch co-op) on a single Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch system with compatible games. Depending on the number of players, you may need additional accessories like Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con controllers (sold separately). Please note: Nintendo Switch Joy-Con are compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 when playing in TV or Tabletop mode. You can learn more about hardware compatibility here. Multiplayer features vary by game; see individual games for details.
Nintendo Switch 2 can transform to suit the way your family likes to play. Just like Nintendo Switch, there are three different play modes.

- Tabletop mode for sitting side-by-side in a closer setting
- Handheld mode for playing anywhere or on the go

Play together on multiple Nintendo Switch 2 and/or Nintendo Switch systems
If everyone is gathered in the same room, you can link together up to eight systems via local multiplayer (couch co-op) in compatible games.
You can also hop online to play with family and friends who are far away. The free Nintendo Switch Parental Controls mobile app**** can be used to set guidelines for online features at any time.

Chat, share, and hang out together with GameChat
GameChat is a feature for the Nintendo Switch 2 system that can help folks have fun together—even if they’re miles apart. With GameChat, a group of up to 12 people can chat while playing games. Make sure your friends and family are on your Friend List to enjoy GameChat with them. You can learn how to manage your Friend List here.

- Help Grandpa when he gets stuck on a puzzle, or cheer on your neighbors during co-op matches

GameShare lets everyone play—with just one game
With a Nintendo Switch 2 system, you can use GameShare to share supported games with friends and family, even if they don't have the game. Everyone can play together!
The Nintendo Switch 2 system can share compatible games with anyone who has a Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch system. Only Nintendo Switch 2 systems can share games, but any Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch can receive them. Nintendo Switch systems can only receive games that are compatible with Nintendo Switch.
If your family is on the receiving end of GameShare and you have enabled the Software Restriction parental control to manage what games can be played, that restriction will be honored when using GameShare, too.

Sharing means caring with virtual game cards
The virtual game card***** feature for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch systems lets you share digital games with your family group. If your family has two systems, you can digitally eject and load games from one system to another. This adds some of the flexibility of physical game cards to your digital game library!
Virtual game cards may not be available for demos and some Nintendo Switch Online member-exclusive games.

Share games with your family
Connect to your Nintendo Account family group via local wireless (both systems must also be connected to the internet). You can lend one game per account for 14 days (unless the borrower returns it earlier).
